Speaker

Suzanne Caplan has been speaking with audiences for over 20 years. Comfortable with small, intimate gatherings and large groups, Caplan speaks on personal empowerment, small business success tips and professional development for business consultants. She has spoken all over the United States and in Canada and England. Caplan speaks from her experience, using anecdotes and humor, combined with practical information, to connect with her audiences.

Author

An established business writer, Caplan draws on her own challenges and successes to help other business owners. She provides applicable advice as well as insight into the emotional highs and lows, and interpersonal dynamics faced by business owners, Caplan's books include:

Caplan has also written for several magazines including Small Business Reports and Saavy.

Consultant - Mentor

Caplan began her consulting career two decades ago, working primarily with start-up businesses. Over the last 10 years, she has worked with a large number of businesses in financial restructuring and planning exit strategies as well as reengineering operations. She has also worked with a number of business turn-arounds. She has assisted contracting companies, manufacturers, restaurants, and retail operations. More than two-thirds of the starts-ups she assisted are still in business and over 75% of her business turn-arounds have been successful.

Entrepreneur

Taking over the family business (a million-dollar manufacturer of industrial safety clothing, started in 1907), Caplan ran Pittsburgh Glove Manufacturing for 21 years, serving clients throughout the United States. In 1989 she started a database information network with several partners. This operation served the safety industry, brokering excess inventory.

Suzanne Caplan on . . .

Speaking - "I speak in the realm of possibility and talk about people who have made it, in all fields. I want my audience to come away feeling they can reach their goals, that all things are possible"

Writing - "I'm a business owner who has made a thousand payrolls and I understand these realities. I connect with my readers by describing situations they have been through. I take a non-academic approach to issues of business and entrepreneurship. After all, I'm writing for the people who face the day-to-day challenges."

Consulting - "My model for business problem solving is holistic. I believe that business problems affect people and so you have to heal them first. It's the lives as well as the livelihoods of those involved that are important, not the businesses themselves. Businesses don't success, people do."

Living the life of an entrepreneur - "I take an entrepreneurial approach to all of my projects, from promoting books, speeches and seminars, to developing consulting clients. I get up every morning looking forward to the day's challenge. Living as an entrepreneur is an exhilarating, albeit risky way to learn a living. It's about creating outcomes and being measured by those outcomes, that's what drives me."
